I don't disagree with any of the notions in this post, Dale.

Two further comments. The first is that the hard time I have working with the right/left cut in domestic policy stuff is still much harder when it comes to foreign policy. Bush's policies can hardly be called classic old line conservative foreign policy; nor could Clinton's be called classic old line liberal.

The second is that I suspect the problem for the Dems is less about finding policies than about convincing the American public. There is little doubt the Reps, knowing it's their best card, will try to play the "you are with us or against us" meme as frequently as possible. And, given their success with the Swiftboats strategy last time around, we will be blessed with a great deal more of it.
