"As a serious investor, you must learn how
to separate the wheat from the chaff"

I don't think that is true. "Serious Investors" ought
not subscribe to anything and ought not spend any
time "sorting". Sorting and goofing is mucking with the porn!
Even SI is part of the financial porno industry--but
it is civilized for the most part, with very few
nasty bits.

The average fellow (all you serious investors out
there) should simply underconsume, exercise a little
frugalitas, and pay off debts. Then, maybe fart around
with some stocks with excess cash. And expect to screw
it up.

I just love "serious investor". A hundred million
"investors" out there. I don't think I have "invested"
in anything in twenty years of goofing around in the
markets. It isn't investing--no company is using the
cash I put on their stock symbol. Sheesh.

When my wife and I started averaging into a mutual
fund years ago--we did it because it had a good chance
of paying better than passbook savings. And it did
(even as it lagged far behind index funds)
but we never called ourselves "investors".
