Peter, Something must have gone on in his early life to make him sour on humans. The temper of a horse can be affected by how he was handled as a young colt. Unfortunately, they are going to rely on their instincts instead of being able to recognize when kind human is with them.

When one is like that, it takes a long time to take the hate out of him, if it can ever be done. A friend of mine bought a quarter horse stallion that had won almost all of his races, for breeding purposes, but he hated people with a passion. I went to look at him, and he damned near kicked the stall door out to get at me, and was trying to bite the whole time.

Your friend was a victim of poor early training, or just a mean horse. I feel sorry for a true horse lover that gets injured in that way.
