The Boomer generation grew up in the Great Inflation. I think that they still expect far too much inflation in the future. This is why they basically have no trouble holding essentially a short dollar position by borrowing money to put into houses. They expect to pay off their mortgages with cheaper dollars in the future because this is the way it has worked their entire lives. I think that they are completely unprepared for sustained low inflation.
