MC - what can I tell you.... I'm doing the whole thing - the steaks, the fritas, the drinking - and the National Museum of Arts. Buenos Aires is really a great town. Anyone who likes a little summer vacation - and doesn't like the beach too much (even though I personally love the beach) -- can have a great time here. Food is great, steaks are downright incredible.... people are remarkably warm and friendly - considering that this is a big city....
No particular ideas about the markets.... right now, mine is that of a wait and see (and have a nice time) attitude. But being that I am slightly net short the markets, and meaningfully long oils and energies --- I can't complain. My account has seen much worse days.
The bad news, MC, is that Boca is not as Italian as it used to be. Your compadres moved on to better and greener pastures... and most of the current residents are people from poorer regions of the country, and immigrants... trying to make a better life for themselves. Heck, they chose a nice town to give it a try......
Cheers!

PS - As luck would have it, on the NY - DC shuttle, we (kind of) rubbed elbows with the recently retired Alan Greenspan. In person, I liked the man very much... he and his wife seemed... simple... and warm to each other, which - in my wife's opinion - was very sweet. A couple of days later - already in BA - we went to a Tango show (highly recommended) - and who do we sit next to? A couple - both of them market people, and the husband, who happens to be a few years your senior, is retired from Wall street, and now teaches at GW University. Of course, we did NOT allow market talk to ruin (too much) the tango show..... ;) |
