ECI Telecom's New Hi-TV(tm) System Names `Transmission System of the Year' at IBC Show

PETAH TIKVA, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 1997--ECI Telecom Ltd. (NASDAQ/NM symbol: ECILF) announced that its new Hi-TV(tm) product has received the `Transmission System of the Year' award from International Broadcasting Magazine at the IBC conference in Amsterdam this week.

The products nominated for this award were selected by the International Broadcasting Magazine's subscribers who are TV service providers and broadcasting professionals. The magazine subscribers singled out Hi-TV(tm) as `Transmission System of the Year.'

Mr. Paul Marks, Editor-In-Chief of the magazine said: "Hi-TV(tm) was chosen for this award due to its flexibility as a single gateway supporting a variety of TV interfaces to a wide range of switched broadband networks, while maintaining compliance with international standards. The innovative approach of the ECI Telecom Hi-TV(tm) system gave it the edge over the competition."

John Cramer, ECI Telecom's General Manager of the Broadband Multiplexers Business Unit, said: "We are very honored to have received this award for Hi-TV(tm). We view it both as a vote for the product, and also as industry endorsement of Hi-TV(tm)'s underlying concepts - of "single gateway to the public network" and "broadband dial-up." Hi-TV(tm), interworking with today's switched, multiservice broadband networks, enables TV professionals to receive the type of telecommunications service that other industries take for granted. Namely: dial-up connectivity with their business partners - for broadband studio-quality TV, in compressed and uncompressed, real-time and non-real-time form. We are also particularly gratified by the very strong interest shown in Hi-TV(tm) at the IBC event - by leading telecommunications services providers and broadcasters, by complementary vendors seeking marketing arrangements, and by agents and distributors worldwide. We were almost overwhelmed..."

ECI Telecom's Hi-TV(tm) system is the industry's first customer-located ATM service multiplexer for dial-up wide area networking of professional quality TV. The system provides real-time serial digital component TV compression (MPEG-2 4:2:2 Profile at Main Level), handling of pre-compressed TV (DVB ASI and SPI user interfaces), and non-real-time TV file transfer. These "user services" are supported by plug-in Hi-TV(tm) boards, enabling service providers and end users to follow a "grow as you go" implementation strategy. In addition to these "user services," Hi-TV(tm) integrally performs multiplexing, ATM adaptation and ATM SVC and PVC network termination.

A provider of integrated network solutions, ECI Telecom designs, develops, manufactures and markets digital telecommunications and data transmission systems, enabling network operators to deliver cost-effective services. ECI Telecom's systems provide capacity expansion, flexibility and management functions to more effectively utilize existing networks for voice, data, wide area and integrated networks.
