I feel the need to point out inconsistencies in arguments
raised by the left. The reason for the inconsistencies is
largely their contrariness, as you say.

I don't know that most conservatives oppose the deal.

It seems obvious to me that many Republicans are trying
to distance themselves from Bush due to his falling ratings.
Consequently, their reasons for opposition to this deal
may be equally transparent.

This is one of those issues that lends itself to superficial
analysis and the "gut level reaction" test, which are not necessarily accurate.

It seems obvious to me that the deal is a payback for much needed assistance in the
Middle East war effort. Security at the ports will be retained by Homeland Security, I'm sure.
This is a port management contract, as I understand it.
