Peter, Some people can communicate with animals in ways that are difficult to explain. There seems to be a bond between animal, and human, which BTW, is a beautiful thing to witness.

I don't know how such a thing comes about, but have had some success with animals, like dogs, cattle, and one meeting with a wolf. I really didn't know what I was doing, and was tempted to run like hell, but something told me to stay calm, and look the wolf in the eyes with a friendly, rather than hostile, gaze. It all ended when we made eye contact, and I slowly sat down, opening my hands with palms up, and he looked at me for a while without making any indication of, fear or attacking, but then walked away slowly on his way. I was sweating, but awed, at the end results.

Ever since then, I have taken the wolf as my totem, and a Southern Arapaho that I worked with, for awhile in Oklahoma, gave me the name Haqihana, which is supposed to be "wolf" in the Arapaho language.
