VTEL Strengthens its Healthcare Solutions with the New HS200O(TM) Advanced Medical Rollabout Based on VTEL Enterprise Series Architecture Platform
September 16, 1997 11:05 AM EDT
AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- VTEL Corporation (Nasdaq: VTEL) announced today the immediate availability of its new HS2000 healthcare rollabout videoconferencing system, the first product in the company's new HealthStation Series(TM).
"As the clear industry leader in telemedicine, VTEL believes the HS2000 strengthens our position in providing total solutions for medical applications such as continuing medical education (CME) and patient consultation," said Mike O'Dell, VTEL vice president and general manager of group systems. "The HS2000 will be used in healthcare environments where high-quality video, mobility, and in interoperability with other videoconferencing systems using Standards and LAN access is critical."
The HS2000 is based on VTEL's Enterprise Series Architecture(TM)(ESA) platform featuring Pentium(R) processors, a Windows95(R) operating system, and StandardsPlus Video(TM) which provides the best standards-based video quality in the industry today. Fast T1/El line rates and integrated multimedia capabilities provide a full range of data sharing capabilities and LAN/WAN connectivity that gives the healthcare user access to critical information such as computer-based patient records. The ESA architecture also allows use of VTEL's innovative SmartVideoNet Manager(TM). SmartVideoNet Manager is a software solution that dramatically simplifies administration, monitoring and fault isolation for video networks using the industry-standard Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
"A hallmark of all VTEL healthcare systems is ease-of-use and mobility," said Linda Roach, VTEL healthcare director. "The HS2000 readily connects to a broad range of video-based medical peripherals such as ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) scopes. The rollabout cart brings mobility for clinical applications in emergency rooms or surgical suites, and is versatile enough to be moved to and used in a conference room or auditorium. This is a value-priced product that expands our medical rollabout line and continues VTEL's long-standing commitment to providing solutions specific to the healthcare market."
VTEL was the first company to create a videoconferencing product designed specifically for the healthcare industry based on input from VTEL's Medical Advisory Panel when F.R.E.D.(TM)(Friendly Rollabout Engineered for Doctors) was introduced in 1995.
The suggested United States list price is $47,600, plus options. The suggested International list price is $49,900, plus options.
