Japan gets no benefit from the yen carry trade, so don't consider that a factor. They need to adjust their monetary policy (called quantitative easing: QE) for obvious reasons (economy is strong, inflation picking up, monetary velocity increasing, funds being mobilized), which right now is at emergency levels (zero interest rates).
