US law has the underpinnings of our constitution, of which there is no, and cannot be, international counterpart. Practices that were in violation of US law at Gitmo and Abu Grahib, while hardly as cruel as you suggest, have been duly prosecuted.

If Iraq, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan, and the like followed laws that were as good as those of the United States, we wouldn't have a problem now, would we?
