The big problem is that DHS and FEMA were busy planning for terrorist attacks and not natural disasters. They even planned for terrorist attacks during a hurricane and focussed on the attack and not the hurricane. They ran off everyone with a background in managing the aftermath of a hurricane, replacing them with people like George Deutsch. So when not only one, but two good-sized hurricanes slammed into the Gulf, they were caught unprepared. Not only were they unprepared, they no longer had the people they need to cope. So they aren't coping, they are hiding.

I understand but we are talking about people having to look for the dead bodies of their relatives because the city of NO doesn't have the money and Washington is refusing to give it. This is 3rd world stuff. Why they are willing to risk fallout over that issue is beyond me.

There will be people living in tents for years to come. If a major quake hits the West Coast, same thing. They just aren't capable of dealing with something large scale. Not only that, they aren't capable of taking the steps to pick up the pieces in the aftermath. The Gulf Coast is the wakeup call. But it looks as if most people are perfectly content to hit the 'snooze' button and roll over and go back to sleep...

It seems your right. Its beyond me how Americans can be so complacent. However, I still think people like Oprah and Anderson Cooper won't let it lie but maybe even they are strong enough to change things.
