Point well taken again. I should have mentioned that one thing covered under my previous umbrella policy was the ownership of vacant land (by inheritance) in another state. That land has long since been sold, and the insurer seemed to think this was a big deal, too.

So again, I'm puzzled about the emphasis on owning and driving a car as a reason or condition for owning an umbrella policy.

Heh, maybe my insurance company thinks I already insure my cars and home for as much as they can charge without adding to the complexity?

As background, I'm aware that some major insurance companies have recently refused to issue homeowners insurance in the affluent area of Westchester, NY, on grounds that the area is due for a hurricane and the properties are too expensive to insure. If they won't insure properties in New York on a bet that a damaging hurricane is coming someday, they must be getting really tough on some coastal areas down south.
