Self-insuring for risks you can easily afford to cover is smart. Self-insuring for risks which put your financial situation into jeopardy is absolutely crazy. I'm sure Chevron-Texaco's net worth of $50 billion far exceeds your own. Yet Chevron-Texaco needs an Umbrella policy but you don't -- that doesn't make sense. The only people who don't need an Umbrella policy are those with no significant assets and lower incomes. .
