gg,
My fault, I guess. I clicked on the url at the end without reading your posted text and found the story about the deal back in Sept. of 2005. However, VRB just came out with what may be a follow up to the 9/05 Australian deal:
VRB Power makes sale in Australia for power supply
VRB Power Systems Inc (TSX-V:VRB) Shares Issued 107,458,158 Last Close 2/23/2006 $0.55 Thursday February 23 2006 - News Release
Mr. Simon Clarke reports
VRB POWER MAKES FURTHER SALE THROUGH ITS AUSTRALIAN DISTRIBUTOR FOR RENEWABLE REMOTE AREA APPLICATION
VRB Power Systems Inc. has sold of a 10-kilowatt-hour VRB energy storage system through its Australian distributor, Pinnacle VRB Ltd., as part of an offgrid remote area power supply (RAPS) system for a 30-hectare rural property southwest of Hobart in Tasmania. This RAPS system will comprise a combination of solar photovoltaic panels with a spring water-fed, microhydro turbine as complementary renewable energy sources that will be coupled to the VRB ESS.
John Clark, the owner of the property, said, "I was looking for a reliable, long-life energy storage system that could best overcome the obvious deficiencies of lead acid batteries, exploit the multiple renewable energy resources available on our property and be easily expanded in line with our future plans."
"Dollar for dollar, we found it readily apparent that the VRB ESS provides a much higher usable storage capacity and longer life than lead acid systems and is much more tolerant of wide variations in operating conditions. The high efficiency of the energy storage system means that much more of the power generated by our microhydro turbine and solar panels becomes available to us as green energy," concluded Mr. Clark.
Colin Andrews, executive director of Pinnacle, said: "It is good to see system designers beginning to fully appreciate the economic and environmental advantages of the VRB ESS. The VRB system provides independently scalable power and energy storage capacity features and we are now able to offer one of the best and most economic energy storage solutions available to the RAPS system market in Australia."
"This sale has seen the VRB ESS receive formal recognition as a component of a renewable generation scheme which is eligible for the federal government's renewable remote power generation program. The sale, therefore, confirms the arrival of the 10-kilowatt VRB system as a viable energy storage solution for domestic and small business consumers, and will encourage other clients to use the VRB systems in their energy generation programmes," concluded Mr. Andrews.
Vince Sorace, president of VRB Power, said: "This sale demonstrates that Australia is evolving as a key market for VRB Power. Renewable energy is becoming more and more prevalent and federal and local governments are supporting its adoption. It is also very encouraging to see that the system at King Island has been successful in demonstrating the benefits of the VRB technology and in seeding the local market. We have a very strong relationship with Pinnacle and we anticipate additional orders for both renewable and remote area applications."
