Good news after the close! Further assay results...

16:30 EST Thursday, February 23, 2006
TORREON, COAHUILA--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 23, 2006) - ECU Silver Mining Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ECU):

- "A4" vein on level 16th, 45 meters (148 ft) averaging 0.44 meter width (1.5 ft) grading 12.34 g/t Au and 2,033 g/t Ag (1.49 oz/t Au-eq(i));

- "A4" vein on level 17th, 15 meters (49 ft) in stopes averaging 0.64 meter width (2.3 ft) grading 17.54 g/t Au and 478 g/t Ag (0.82 oz/t Au-eq(i));

- "A1" vein on level 15.5, 15 meters (49 ft) averaging 0.46 meter width (2.9 ft) grading 10.1 g/t Au and 787 g/t Ag (0.75 oz/t Au-eq(i)).

ECU Silver Mining Inc. (the "Company") is pleased to announce further assay results from stope development and raises on levels 15.5, 16 and 17 in the Tres Aguilas area of the Santa Juana mine. These results were compiled from sampling the "A1" and the "A4" veins development (see Stockwatch Jan. 19, 23 and 30 and Feb. 3, 6, 9 and 15, 2006).

The results outlined in table 1A below were obtained from five draw points representing 45 meters of vein on level 16. This section averages 0.44 meter grading 12.34 g/t Au and 2,033 g/t Ag. While the first two draw points (#1 and #2) yielded decent average grades, draw points #3, #4 and #7 were outstanding yielding very high gold and silver assays. Base metals assays are pending.

(i)oz Au-eq is gold plus silver converted in gold at a 60:1 ratio (base metals excluded)

The results in table 1B below are from samples of the "A4"vein taken from stopes and raises on the 17th level. The main point of interest is the vertical and horizontal continuity of the excellent grades obtained from sampling the access drift.

The Company will continue to focus on production from these areas. The development team of the Company will dedicate part of their program to verify new veins intersected by the current drilling program. To date, four holes have been completed and samples have been sent for assaying. The geological team is currently evaluating the initial results and planning follow-ups on the most interesting areas.

All the samples represent the true width of the veins. Samples were assayed at Mina de San Luis, state of Durango, Mexico. Property specific quality control samples were inserted at regular intervals in the sample sequence.

Mr. Michel Roy, P. Geo., a "qualified person" within the meaning of NI 43-101, prepared the technical information disclosed in this news release.

ECU Silver Mining Inc is a junior Gold, Silver, Zinc and Lead producer in the prolific mining district of Velardena, Mexico where historically over 500,000 ounces of Gold and 250,000,000 ounces of silver have been mined. Full scale production began in May 2005 at the Company's Santa Juana mine. To ensure the Company is positioned for continued growth and expansion, and to take full advantage of the current record setting metals prices, the Company has a fully operational infrastructure in place, several months of planned production available from the current stopes, and ongoing exploration programs.
