Centex CFO leaves post

Lel Echols, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Centex Corporation, plans to leave his position on June 30, 2006, to pursue other business and personal interests. Wink, wink, say no more.

When Lel joined Centex in 2000, we were barely a $6 billion company. Since then, he has played a pivotal role in helping guide our company through a period of tremendous growth and change. As part of the Centex management team, Lel has been instrumental in sharpening the focus on our home building business and ensuring that we are well positioned to continue delivering strong performance in the future. In addition to his personal contributions, Lel has assembled a strong financial leadership and support team that will continue to deliver top-notch support to our operations.

We have retained a leading executive search firm to assist in the search for Lel's replacement and Lel has agreed to assist in the transition.

Lel's contributions to Centex have been significant and he leaves the company in a much stronger condition than when he entered it. Please join with me in wishing Lel every success in his future endeavors.
