I learned early on to be the first or second man in line while walking through the woods during yellowjacket season. The first man walks by unawares; the second sees them coming out of the ground; the third gets stung.

Dry summers were worst for yellowjackets. They get cranky and mean when there's not enough water.

They were so bad in Oregon we got training on how to administer epinephrine injections, and got a little kit to carry with us. I never had to use mine.

Fire camps are bad news because of all the food and water concentrated in one place. They put traps all over, but the yellowjackets are still bad.

Unlike you, I've managed to stay of TV in all my yellowjacket incidents. (Do you still practice forestry?)
