I know some people feel that way about immunizations for children (that it's an unsuitable restriction that they have to immunize their children if they don't want to)- but it's a greatest good for the greatest number problem. At least safety is being considered- if it were just left up to the car companies (to take seat belts and air bags) it would be driven by profit. IMO what we have now is better. It isn't perfect for everyone, and a small minority may be unhappy with it, but it delivers a lot of safety to a lot of people. I don't see the point in rearguing the whole thing again- but I've still got all my safety data bookmarked(including my lovely charts and graphs) if that's where we're going.
