I think people exaggerate the extent that we are handing our ports over to the UAE. The workers won't be from the UAE, much of the management is from non-Arab countries, the security is mostly the responsibility of the Coast Guard.

And if an Arab country is going to own the ports the UAE is one of the more reasonable ones. Its not democratic but it is more open and tolerant than most of the Arab world, and the government owns the company as an investment, not as a way to spread Islam or something like that. This company runs a lot of ports and from what I here its pretty good at it.
