Your consistent preaching re: elimination of personal debt is spot on, in my book.

Yes, Cactus. Absolutely. It will pay dividends in later years.

Among my other things in our Firm, I am also mentor to our associates. I can't tell you how many have come and gone after hearing the RR lectures. It's sort of a legend around our Firm. That's fine, I want it that way.

But, one of our aspiring young attorneys that was so hell bent on keeping up with the "Joneses" in society to the point where debt was killing him and his marriage came to me the other day and told me that all that I had been telling him finally sunk in.

He and his wife, and they just had a baby, sat down and drafted a life plan. They each agreed that they would chart their own course, together, regardless of the "Joneses." Society is important to them, but they realized they could do that on their terms.

He said that they have friends now subscribing to what they did. I told him leadership is contagious. Set your plan. Live by it.

I'll say it again..... I was driving junker cars 35 years ago when my buddies were trying to keep up with the "Joneses." When I married Mrs. RR, she knew I wasn't playing that game. We were going to be debt free by 40. We sacrificed but we made it. My friends are still in debt. We're not. We don't owe anybody a dime.

Freedom.
