I'll tell you what really happened. Bush was asleep at the wheel. Then when some newspaper go the scoop on this, Rove and friends realized that the big national security President was going to take a beating so they tried the holier than thou tack. Essentially their tack has been to say that everyone else in this country must be racist because we think that a country (UAE) that has stated that they still think the Taleban is the only legitimate gov't of Afghanistan isn't worthy of controlling our ports.

The fact of the matter is that at this point in America's history, we simply can't have a Muslim country controlling our ports. It may sound racist, but who cares. That's just the way it is. I don't think it is racist at all to prefer the UK control our ports over a Muslim country. I call that self-preservation.
