The probem with Ms. Coulter is she says: " The idea that Democrats have any meaningful interest in America's national security is a joke.....". Of course democrats care about national security.

For years the Republicans were able to make statements like this and the dems would wimper and say, "no fair". The republicans would then have thee high ground on the issue no matter what they had done, or not done about a specific problem.

I think this is changing..or maybe has changed. Rasmussen poll shows dems actually leading repubs on questions involving who is more concerned about national security. Who would have thought this could EVER be the case? Ms. Coulter sounds like she is whistling past the graveyard. Many americans DO now question whether the republicans really have their act together on protecting the homeland. Whether the port decision is really a non-issue, it signifies such a tone deaf element of the administration (or the second tier secretaries who made the call), that it gives the dems a chance they will have to do a lot to fumble. Ms. Coulter's past screams of "TREASON" notwithstanding. How silly that looks in hindsight.

On a completely unrelated subject, I found myself thumbing through some old Tom Clancy novels yesterday. In these books (which I enjoyed very much at the time), American technology, leadership, military might, intelligence capabilities were always brilliant. Everything worked together flawlessly. Leaders were apolitical. Everyone made decisions for the good of the country, or the world. In light of events over the past three years, the books just seem so dated and trite. I know they were always fiction, but when interviewed Clancy was always so knowing about its all...In the last interviews I saw involving him, his tone had changed quite a bit. I guess that is true for many. JMHO>
