The explanations that I have read and heard are that "US security" at ports is handled by US agencies such as the coast guard, customs, etc., and they are completely unaffected by the transfer of management contracts from one company to another. That's true......so what? From my mgmt of apt. buildings, no security is perfect or all encompassing. Any manager of the ports will know the easiest ways to circumvent the security. The concerns I've read boil down to "they're Arab!", and that's pretty much it. Where's the beef? I wish that right now so many of the world's terrorists were not Muslims, but they are.......and there is a lot of hate for the US. All it takes for someone on the staff of the managing company who has had a family member taken out by an American or an Israeli to become turncoat. The risk is they could be persuaded to give info to terrorists that would compromise the security of the ports and make them more vulnerable to attack. It may never happen, but who can afford to take the risk with the way things are in the world? Could you?
