<But look what happens when somebody goes proactive like [the] President Bush[es] did! Piss and moan, whine and belly ache! Sound familiar?>
My position before the attack was that it was just the eons-old story of alpha males fighting each other [for the usual reasons]. I didn't think it was such a bad thing and the casualties have been lighter than I thought they'd be for USA soldiers and a lot lighter than I thought they'd be for Iraqis. The quick [instant] surrender by Iraq was good in that respect, and also what I predicted - I said it would be a war lasting one Globalstar orbit of Earth [about 110 minutes]. Which was kidding of course because tanks don't drive quite that quickly, [and it was a long way to Baghdad], even if Saddam had put refueling depots en route to make it easier. The WMDs were a joke. Of course they weren't there.
But for all that, I still thought it dopey to attack Iraq. I though the UN should be revamped into a New United Nations, NUN, with Japan, India and Germany more fully-fledged members, France downgraded [and UK, Russia too I suppose. After a decent constitution was enacted and an occupation force was ready to rumble, [maybe 2 million soldiers from India and Africa could have used a better income], peace would have been certain from day one.
But no, the USA has such contempt for the UN and any such globalist ideas, that they wanted to pull out six-guns, get Dirty Harry, and take out the bad guys in good old wild-west fashion.
The USA will live to regret the opportunity they are passing up to revamp the international scene to something for the 21st century. There are only 4% of the world is in the USA and 4% doesn't get to run much for long. Even with a good start. It's not that they are the smartest 4% on the planet and they don't have a monopoly on free markets and other good stuff. Money can leave town easily.
<Whatever should we do? I mean, when you're an elephant, you're probably going to squash some mice even if you stand on one foot. Should we try levitation?>
The USA isn't really an elephant and other people aren't really mice. See above for what to do. But levitation would be good, especially for transport. Tyres are so noisy, energy wasteful, expensive and require maintenance [and get punctures] and heavy. And have high angular momentum.
I don't mind chain-pulling. It provides a good excuse for a rant. I like to "Yank" the odd chain myself.
