I believe it being a proven fact that elevated sea surface temperatures and hurricanes or at least the strength of them go hand in hand.

Having said that, however, except for the 2005 season the official statistics show a hurricane decline in recent years from a recent max around the late sixties.

It will be quite interesting to see how 2006 develops.
Maybe 2005 just like 1969 was a unique year only?
