I recommend that people consider analysts who work at the regional brokerage houses. Regionals on average have many fewer buy and sell recommendaions. The firm I use Ragen MacKenzie (Pacific Northwest) has averaged only 3-6 recommended stocks. By minimizing the number of stocks that are recommended, the quality of the picks tends to increase. Additionally, regionals are less likely to churn recommendations. Ragen MacKenzie's average "holding" period is atleast 18 months.

A specific analyst I nominate is Paul Ladda at Ragen MacKenzie for his coverage of the forest & paper industries as well as the computer telephony industry.
