You have made my point:

"Peter, I can't make a positive remark about the longshoreman's union, because they have been corrupt to decades. During the WW2 period, they were even infiltrated by Nazi agents, and were responsible for one ship being set afire in the NY port. They have been under the thumb of Mafia bosses for a long, long, time, and even though mob activities are curtailed to a certain extent, they still have their hands in a number of cookie jars."

What makes us demand that an American company own the management rights? Were the ports managed by Germans during WWII?

The Coast Guard is not perfect, but they are gaining respect.

"Dubai has been a sort of ally, even though it is an Islamic nation, and I see no reason that they will vary from that stance in the near future, but with the violence tendency of many Muslims, there is no way to be absolutely sure."

And Singapore is sort of an ally too.

The price tag is out of reach for almost every Americans company. Dubai has no more petroleum to export, finding huge investments to ensure income into the future is important to them.

"there is no way to be absolutely sure."

It is always difficult to know who to trust.
