For the shot to go through his vest, go through his shirt, go through his skin and enter his chest ending up in his heart he was close! You need to take into consideration the shot size and gauge of gun. 28 gauge is kind of a woman's gun - very small. The shot was 7 1/2, also very small. That of course makes sense as they were shooting quail. ........If he had been using a significantly lower shot number, Whittington would be dead. They originally said the guy got peppered and that it happens all the time in Texas. He was not peppered - he was shot at close range and Cheney f#cked up. This type of hunting might be "sporting" for Cheney, it is a complete insult to most sportsman. They drove their car to the quail got out and shot - we call that "road hunting". We did it as kids. We will never know the true story about what happened, but the weirdest thing to me is how Whittington was hit on the right side of his face. All reports were that Whittington was on Cheney's right when Cheny swung to the right to fire. For Whittington to to be hit on the right side of his face indicates that in fact Whittington was not walking up from the back, but instead was walking towards the group. Cheney will have to live with this the rest of his life - I wonder if it changes the black hole where one's heart is suppose to be? Steve
