I have had two tickets in Mexico--both of which I paid directly to the police! Both times I claimed my license was back at my resort and I could take them back there to get it. I did not want them to have that sort of leverage (my license) over my pocketbook.

As to dealing with cops in Mexico or Turkey...I don't deal with them HERE. Rule # 1 in life...DO NOT deal with any "authorities" unless you are forced to by circumstance. The job attracts insecure misfits with a need for authority and control--generally to compensate for a sense of impotence and vulnerability. I don't want a damn thing to do with them.

I agree with you, in other words as regards avoiding cops...
