Rationalizing an excessive cost of a 3G EVDO handset by comparing it to the cost of a 2.5G GSM handset is ludicrous.

Certainly, it's a silly point to make when arguing that the BOM of CDMA handsets (and Qualcomm's contribution thereof) was prohibiting competition with GSM handsets in emerging markets. Even so, I would have been interested in seeing the cost delta between the GSM and DO RAZRs: All other things being equal, Qualcomm's MSM probably costs $25, CDMA royalty is about $14.75 (after netting out the MSM :) ). The GSM chip is probably $10 and incurs Motorola no incremental royalty.
