I stayed up and watched the debacle all night long. If I recall correctly, it seemed more like the networks trying to scoop each other on the call. At the time, according to the exit polls, I believe Gore did seem to be ahead.

Even if they did call it for partisan reasons, the media caught alot of shit over it. Which you have to admit would have made any rational actor wary of making the same mistake again.
