I don't believe that the UAE or the vast majority of the people in the UAE are neutral. If it came down to it, I have no doubts where the UAE allegiance would fall. And it ain't in the U.S. I don't know in what form the threat would come, but it wouldn't likely be in any obvious way. Perhaps it's just the knowledge they can gain from the internal workings of our customs/immigration/border patrol etc... Their policy toward israel makes if very clear that they sanction philosophies that are counter to our interests. To be honest, I would be against any foreign government owning our ports, whether it is the UK, Saudi Arabia, Peru, China or the UAE. I would certainly be more comfortable though if it was a country who had demonstrated that they are a true ally. If it is to prove we are open minded to doing business with muslim countries, hell let's invite turkey to buy a port or two. I wouldn't accept it if the UAE was forced to adopt a new policy toward Israel. Their beliefs would not change and they would find other ways to discriminate. They would have to make these changes on their own willingly and before the deal was struck.
