Some of the major 3G players in Europe are trying to offer landline voice as part of a bundle, this sounds like something they may be winning. If it then leads to network wins in the core and then edge for these wireless carriers it would be very large. Orange UK sounds like one of them, they are going to offer landline voice in a bundle in the UK(Orange would be like Vonage for the wired voice).

Someone agrees with me.

Goldman on SONS

February 28, 2006

We met with Hassan Ahmed, CEO of Sonus Networks, at the Goldman Sachs Technology Symposium and, while there was no breaking news on the financial side, we came away with the following key takeaways: 1) The European market is finally emerging as a real growth opportunity for SONS, Wireline operators are leading the way but wireless is likely to follow soon. 2) This mornings Japan Telecom win secures SONS leading position in the Japanese VoIP market, which is the second largest market opportunity for Sonus behind the US. While no size of the contract was provided, this is a multi-year contract for a sizeable new network build. We note however that the timing of revenue recognition around this contract remains difficult to model given the lumpy nature of initial network builds. Maintain IL/A rating.
