The impending expiration of, and need to renew licenses, was the context for some of PJ`s remarks yesterday. He suggested that one major license was being currently renegotiated, and that due to the older "capture period" for that license, and Qualcomm`s greater contribution to HSDPA, HSUPA, and other high data improvements that evolved from HDR, Qualcomm`s leverage is greater today than it was when the original license was negotiated. One can infer that Qualcomm has increased its royalty demands for license extensions, although it isn`t necessarily so, or,it may be a negotiating ploy to encourage the signing of extensions.
