" Eagle Asset Management, the largest holder, has increased its position to 2.023 million shares, according to Bloomberg. They purchased 410,410 in the latest quarter. By the way, since January they have essentially doubled their position from about a million shares."
Here's more about Eagle Asset Management, which is headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida...

It was also indicated that management sees indication of a strong 4th Q based on the growth in backlog of 810 and 812 DST products.
It's good to see Ampex's DST line start to participate more vigorously in the corporate upgrade cycle now underway. It is typical of big ticket items like DST ($100,000 - $500,000+) to have the following characteristics:
1) In a quarter, orders tend to be heavily back-ended. EMC refers to its quarterly orfering patterns as hockey stick-shaped.
2) In a year, orders tend to be heavily front-loaded in the March quarter and heavily back-ended in the December quarter reflecting the way that corporate budgets are spent.
In practical terms, Ampex completed its product transition in the March quarter and is now poised to develop some momentum heading into what typically would be the 2 strongest quarters for big ticket items like DST.
"....the Company should also benefit from the recent addition of a royalty payer, thereby increasing recurring royalties and decreasing operating expenses...."
Interesting speculation re: Maxtor. Common sense would dictate that considering the kind of progress that AXC is making with KM+MR that Maxtor would try to preserve its preferential pricing by at least ordering the minimum amounts specificied in the contract.
Also, it could be also be Samsung which has a full line of consumer electronics products.

...the licensing of the over 40 patents that Ampex has identified as being used by TV manufacturers.
Over 40 patents?? And here we are agonizing over the apparent loss of the PIP patent. LOL. As I recall, the jury awarded $8.1 million, or 3/4 of 1% of $1.1 billion in infringing Mitsubishi products for that one patent alone. |
