I think you can understand that a given culture might find genital mutilation "ok" and yet not find it ok yourself. We don't have to accept genital mutilation, and we can try to change the minds of those involved in it- but saying our way is "better" rarely wins an argument (as we've seen on SI, "better" tends to be rather personal.) I think if you are going to combat something like that in another culture, you're probably better off finding something else important to THAT culture, and saying, "Hey, this practice of yours is inconsistent with that." So using the Koran to combat it would be good, and also using the fact that it can inhibit childbirth. No culture (or person) responds very well to being called inferior- even if (in our opinion) they are.

And I don't get mixing it up with music. That's like food- it's all about one's tastes.
