rrufff, DSL update: yesterday SBC doubled my download speed to 640 kbps [as measured] and for web browsing, including Stockcharts.com , that feels about as fast as Comcast cable did [at less cost]. Cable - at about 5 times my present speed - is only necessary if one downloads a lot of large files, like movies.

I still have just one PC connected directly to the DSL modem. But the IP for the modem is no longer shared with the PC. The modem thinks the PC is on a LAN - with a private [?] IP. In any case, ZA is blocking attempted intrusions and even some from SBC nodes - with no adverse effects.

I've been on SBC DSL since 2/16 and so far like it fine.
