I do recall reporter asking Egyptians about money they are getting from US while they were celebrating 9/11 to which most common response was that just because we hate them does not mean that they should not pay us re: least insidious you do know that Egypt was the most "insidious" arab country before Israeli tanks were in the shooting distance from Cairo. If I recall it correctly, Russia threatened to enter the war and after some negotiations Israel withdrew and US ended up paying 2-3B a year for Egypt's military build up.
