Taxing the very wealthy still is only a drop in the bucket. There is a problem with income equity across rich and poor. Thats a problem we need to address. This is caused by globalization forcing down wages while inflation, espeically health care, education and oil&gas affects the middle class and poor disproportionally. But dont want to kill the goose to solve it. We need creative solutions that dont for the most part include just more taxes or more spending. Consumption taxes always interest me because the rich spend so much more that what was once considered so regressive now becomes super progressive. And for the very poor a consumption deduction on any income taxes they pay. But my supply side friends say a consumption tax would be a nightmare to enforce.
