No...he was not clear. The republicans cashed in on that. Kerry has a nuanced position. To understand the kind of thinking that Kerry uses, one needs to be capable of understanding the "complex details".

The republicans avoid complex details, because they understand the American people. They stay hard on the issues that get votes. They keep it simple in 30 second sound bites. Kerry will want to talk to them for a half an hour just to explain why he voted for the war before he voted against it and why he thought we should stay the course before we should have withdrawn. Today his ideas on Iraq have changed again. What the hell is his position? I sure don't know.

Bush's position, well he states it clearly. Sure it's wrong thinking, but it's clear. He harkens back to 9-11 a dozen if not a hundred times per month. We know where he stands.

As far as Dems go, the only one that has stood his ground on the war before during and after is Kucinich (sp?).

The dems are in no position to sit back on a Fox poll that says 14% want to shift to the dems. The work is just beginning. Personally I don't think that the party is well organized and I won't be a bit surprised to see the neocons pull off another election in 08.
