I think the real reason we are letting the United Arab Emerites (UAE) in on our port terminals is the fact that they sit on the opposite side of the Straits of Hormuz from Iran. If Iran comes under attack for the nuclear program, the U.S./Britain will need a country like the UAE and their facilities to keep the very important Straits of Hormuz open to the oil business. The port deal is a big payoffs to the higher ups in UAE society to give us the green light to use their country as necessary in our campaign against Iran.

Keep in mind that the Straits of Hormuz are the channel in which all the Persian Gulf oil flows. That's a lot of oil and very important to our strategic interests. Apparently, all Iran needs to do is sink a couple of oil tankers and the Straits of Hormuz are block. Imagine what that would do to the price of oil.

If anyone is thinking of putting their money into alternative energy as a hedge against peak oil and other oil madness, check out this Exchange Traded Fund, it invests in alternative/renewable energy companies. Nice performance since it started 1.5 years ago, up about 77%.
