That's the $64,000 question. Since the MSM & DNC are willfully dishonest about so many things, including their genuine intentions, all I could do is speculate based on what is known.
For starters consider the now infamous term coined by Charles Krauthammer - Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS). The evidence supporting this is overwhelming. Perhaps there's more to it than just BDS. Perhaps it's RDS (R for Republican).
Consider that Republicans have the White House, majorities in the Senate & Congress, most state governor's are Republican, & majorities in most state legislatures.
Consider that Republicans have obtained these majorities in spite of less than honest Democratic machines in most major cities (READ: all manner of voter fraud & other shenanigans - all well documented on this thread).
The DNC was able to use the MSM as a free source to push their agenda. Think about all the faux scandals that appeared as we approached the Presidential election. The MSM gave Kerry & leading lib politico's plenty of coverage to express their outrage & pile on.
Consider all the questionable & illegal voter registration shenanigans by Soros backed groups like ACT & ACORN, ET AL? How many millions were pumped into groups that focused mainly on registering democrats & disenfranchising certain Republican voters?
Those majorities happened in the face of the MSM's relentless onslaught of slanders & smears against anything Republican & an all out pro liberal agenda. How many hundreds of millions each year in free advertising does the MSM give to the DNC cloaked as hard "news"?
How many bogus MSM polls came out declaring Kerry in the lead or tied with Bush? Remember the Zogby poll where Zogby himself said Kerry would quash Bush with 311 electoral votes right before the election? How about all the online "polls" showing that Kerry won each debate by an overwhelming landslide?
Consider that the MSM is a liberal groupthink cocoon. They all think alike & any dissent is simply not tolerated. This cloistered mindset literally spills over into their reporting of the news. Consciously or not, they have literally controlled the information flow to the masses. And it is heavily imbued with the liberal world view.
In spite of all of this Republicans are the majority party from the White House to the local dog catcher. For the DNC & MSM this had to be beyond comprehension. How could any right thinking person vote for Chimpy McBushHitler or any of those eeeeevil Republicans?
Since both the MSM & DNC live in their groupthink cocoons, they were completely at a loss to explain how this happened. Despite their best (worst) efforts, they got creamed. Those stupid Americans didn't get the message form the elite MSM.
Rather than look internally & do a self examination of what they did wrong, or think outside the box, they closed ranks & lashed out at their perceived enemies. It had to be "them". So here they were in worse shape after an all out, no holds barred effort to regain their rightful place in power.
Now consider how the MSM & DNC acted after the 2000 election... the 2002 election... the 2004 election... After each successive humiliating defeat they got more desperate & shrill. Opposition by Dem's morphed into knee-jerk opposition to outright obstructionism. The conspiracies, the slanders & smears were more frequent & more prominent in the "news". Objectivity & accuracy steadily declined. Faux scandals appeared with more regularity & the reaction to them became increasingly hysterical. Acts of treachery by both the DNC & MSM steadily increased to the point where national security is compromised on the front page of the news & politicians openly smear & slander our President on foreign soil.
Again, I could go on & on & on about each of the things I addressed here. It's that bad. And there's so much more, like the effect of the internet giving a loud voice to the radical left & effectiveness of some of the most radical leftists in exploiting it.
As to "why"? How about this?
Politics is emotional & personal. The more one is emotionally involved in their politics, the less inclined they are to changing their POV as time & events unfold, despite facts & credible evidence contrary to their inflexible POV's. The MSM lives in a groupthink environment that only tolerates one strict POV. They also have convinced themselves they are our countries elites. They know what’s best for the country & they determine what the "truth" is. The DNC is quite similar to the MSM.
After each election since 2000, the MSM & DNC failed to perform an honest assessment of what happened & what they really did, what went wrong & corrected their mistakes. Instead, both apparently decided they did not do enough of what they had previously done (it can't be us!).
The DNC, instead of moderating moved further & further to the hard left. Instead of recognizing they had become an obstructionist party with a non-existent platform, they became a disloyal opposition that was even more shrill & treacherous with no platform. They rejected the idea of moving toward the center to regain moderate & independent voters, with a platform that resonates among the masses. Instead, they have embraced their radical, anti-war, anti-American base & moved closer to them.
The MSM, instead of demanding more diversity of opinion among their ranks & returning to reporting the news objectively also closed ranks & convinced themselves they didn't do enough to educate those ignorant Red State bumpkins the errors of their ways.
I'd say that ego, elitism, desperation, denial & a large dose of groupthink mentality gets you to "why".
