My father's best friend was an oil tanker's captain back in the 50s and 60s.
He told us about the swarm of birds always following his ship over the oceans.

By the way, He was on voyage to Teheran when the Mossadeq crisis hit. Had to wait on stand-by with his tanker for 4 weeks until the commie was removed.

His ship dog's name BTW was "carramba". Little cute white bastard I dearly loved. I was 7 years old or so.
