Kerry did the right thing. His only other choice was to hold a press conference, stop all talk of jobs, health care and other crucial issues, and concentrate on having a mock kangaroo trial of himself where he pleads innocent to all the phony smearvet charges.

Instead, he asssigned his boatmates under Max Cleland to go and fight the Bushie dirty tricksters. Also, John McCain spoke out against the smearvets, but that didn't sem to have much effect. They were half successful, but the other half did cost Kerry enough votes not to win. Although, so did Bush's phony terrorist alerts and suspicious Osama tape. So did the Florida hurricane and Bush's wonderful FEMA response for swing-voter neighborhoods. Do did the cheating in Ohio. They all cost Kerry the election.

In retrospect, it was not so much Kerry as the gullible press which was to blame for amplifying the smearvets. They never should have been given air time on serious TV shows. But you know many of those shows are controlled by the rightwing, so the lies got out.

Remember this in the future, because when they use ther smears it means they have no real issues to run on. No plans, no answers, no accomplishments, nothing positive to brag about.
