It's pretty worthless to come up with examples in other areas of crime. Drug dealers, even if they are only pot dealers, can get life if they sell enough weed. Read about the guidelines and mandatory sentencing. It's fascinating. I'm not saying I approve. It's just the way the system is. Fortunately, the courts are constantly evaluating the system and legislation can change over time as it is supposed to be a reflection of the people's will. But that doesn't typically help someone who is being sentenced currently.
