Yes Maurice, people do irrational, illogical things all the time. It's called the reptilian brain and it's much more powerful than the rational one.

Emotions are much more powerful than logic which is why things like perfume and cars which go way over the speed limit exist. Ditto also the century-old marketing behind the diamond engagement ring by the deBeers monopoly. It's inane but people buy into that inane stuff every single day.

The end of the era of gasoline.

Yes, it is ending after only a few hundred years. The rise in price is indicative of a problem of supply and demand.

I do think your attitude toward life is very cold and brutish. We have enough resources to give every single human being a decent life but they are squandered every single day for greed and venality.
