I think this statement in your post is an incorrect assumption.

These politicians & journalists are expected to have a considerably deeper understanding of every issue & fully inform the public of the pros & the cons. Not only do they have exponentially better access to all of the facts & evidence, they have large staffs who are required to be on top of these issues before they inform the public. And they are expected to not only be ethical, but adhere to certain prescribed ethical standards at all times.

It is the way it should be but isn't. Not only do they not have a deeper and correct understanding but do not adhere to ethical standards as well. In stocks, I know at times a lot about a certain company or tech process. Then I read in the WSJ or a respected analysts report an article and it is often incorrect on the facts. I have E-Mailed some of them pointing out the errors. Try preparing for a trial as an attorney. The time required to know and get the facts and understand just one small issue is enormous. We are still trying to find out for sure why the concrete canal walls broke in NO i.e. The professors and Army Core of Engineers have different theories.

But I do agree that the false statements and info and conclusions and thus opinions are very frustrating.
