I'm a democratic party insider. I swear to God, I have only met one prominent democrat out of dozens I have spoke to this year who is backing Hillary, and even that guy was unclear about it. He said "I guess Hillary maybe".
Gore seems to be the flavor of the month, but a friend of his told me Al isn't running. Of course he could change his mind, but I doubt he will. Something missing in Al Gore, the raw ambition maybe. I looked into his eyes once and didn't see the fire. But he would be a strong contender if he runs.
As impressive as Hillary is (mainly because of Bill behind her, assuming he really is) she is not seen as very electable. Not the strongest candidate to put up in 2008. She may not even run. Don't be surprised if that turns out to be the case.
In no special order, Democrats would be well-advised to back Warner, Kerry, Gore, Clark, Richardson, Biden and Edwards. The last three I don't think have a chance, so it's really the first four, and Clark seeming more like a VP type, whose job it would be to straighten out the Pentagon, Iraq, FEMA and Homeland Security which are all a total mess now. |
