Peter, There are just oodles of savvy folk in Nevada (and other gambling states) who earn their living as professional gamblers. I am not one of them; I am merely an occasional gambler, because it is fun.

I don't think state lotteries rob Nevada of their gamblers, but the American Indian casinos do. I played in an Indian casino once. That was enough. Most Nevada casinos are much, much better, and with much, much better odds.

The two largest cities/counties in Nevada are close enough to California for people to go there to buy lottery tickets.

On a lark of curiosity, when the California lottery was brand-new, I bought a couple of lottery tickets in 1984 and won $2.00. I (and most) know the odds for winning a big pile of cash in a state lottery are infinitesimal. I have bought none since.

The California lottery was slipped through, lo these many moons ago, on the promise it was to benefit the public schools in California. We can see how that has worked out. - Holly
